Transporting oversized towers and accompanying equipment of an ammonia facility by Haifa
We are proud to have successfully completed a unique and highly complex logistics project transporting oversized towers and accompanying equipment for the construction of an ammonia facility by Haifa Group in the Mishor Rotem area.
The ammonia facility that is under construction in southern Israel replaces the old facility in Haifa that was closed. The facility is being built by SAIPEM – one of the largest companies in the world specializing in energy and infrastructure solutions.
The complex equipment arrived from South Korea on a specialized general cargo vessel equipped with self-loading and unloading cranes, and included, among other things, 3 towers that were not of your run-of-the-mill dimensions:
Two units about 38 meters long each, and a very large unit 57 meters in length that weighed in excess of 125 tons!!!
So how do you carry out the land transport of such a large cargo? You meticulously plan all the required activities down to the smallest detail:
Inspect the transport routes, conduct specific examinations of the radius of turns, and perform computer simulations.
Unload the equipment from the ship on to special equipment – hydraulic trolleys on which turntables were installed to enable maneuvering along the transport route, in addition to control panels, rear steering and more.
Perform welding work and build a special anchoring and securing device that is installed directly on the cargo and to our transport equipment.
Conduct extensive advance coordination with a large number of entities.
Remove obstacles along the route the night before the transport to ensure safe passage of the cargo.
Massive police escort comprised of dozens of police cars and officers, our team of mechanics and technicians, backup vehicles, engineering teams and others.
The complex transport plan was carried out over 2 nights, accompanied by the huge police escort, Fridenson Group teams, backup vehicles, engineering teams, and many others.
Due to the nature of the cargo, the average travel speed was 20 km/h, with our teams heading the transport operation of the complex equipment all along the way.
Our teams spent several months working on and planning the intricate undertaking. The Group’s drivers, teams, and management laid the groundwork for optimal execution, which culminated in high-quality implementation of the well-prepared transport plans.
We wish Haifa Group success with the new and advanced facility.
We will continue to provide end-to-end logistics services that, owing to our extensive years of experience and specialized transport equipment, enable us to carry out complex transport operations for special cargo with operational flexibility and uncompromising professionalism!
